Orange Kenya 3G internet campaign

I’ve just heard a rumour that Orange Kenya will be launching the real 3G internet service around the middle of August this year.

Surprisingly, that is about the same time Airtel Kenya will be launching their 3G internet service.

What is not known by many of you is that you will need to purchase a new modem to be able to use the service.

What do you think about that?

I mean, you may already have a modem that you bought with your hard earned money on the basis that you were told it is 3G internet.

Because they told you it was 3G internet you may have thought that you were making a one-off investment and would not be needing to spend more of your scarce financial resources on another modem.

Money doesn’t grow on trees and that fact makes it pretty hard to come buy so when someone misleads you by using a name like 3G+ on a service it is only natural that you feel cheated and not so happy about the whole affair.

Safaricom came in with internet then rolled out 3G internet without using misleading terms and Airtel has done the same too. None of our mobile service providers, apart from Orange, have called their initial services 3G+.

So what should you do, unless you’re okay with being fooled into spending money on things that are not what the provider claims them to be?

Simple, boycott the service! Together as one!

Take up Airtel’s service if you want to try something new.

How can we help Orange Kenya? Together as one we can promise to try their service if they will accept returns of their EVDO modems or if they will give the customer new modems free of charge after the purchase of a certain amount of airtime not exceeding Ksh 2000.

If Orange cannot do any of the above, they can watch us all join Airtel’s new service ‘together as one’ since Kenyans don’t take being lied or being misled to kindly.

I have now confirmed that Airtel’s 3G internet service will come at no extra cost to those who already own modems and have been using the mobile internet service. What may change is the bundle charge.

Here’s what this means. If Orange don’t find a way to provide free modems to customers and potential customers, there’s no reason anyone would want to have their 3G service; it does not make any financial sense since Airtel have the best network and coverage and the cost of the new service is only for first time customers or those who do not already own their modems.

Orange will be at a disadvantage as not many Kenyans will want to take on the services of a provider who feels nothing about misleading customers just to make some money in addition to the fact that that provider isn’t the one with the best network in the land.

Frankly speaking, Orange has made some serious mistakes in the past and this seems like their only chance to set things right.

For now, together as one, no free modem, no Orange 3G.
